Michigan: AmeriCorps Funding Creates More Than 1,100 Positions in Michigan

The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) today announced 25 organizations will receive $6,921,782 in AmeriCorps funding to place 1,121 members in communities to help 'get things done' across the state of Michigan.

The 2010-2011 Michigan's AmeriCorps grantees will use the funding to engage members in various service opportunities, including those focused on human needs, education, environment, public safety, health, and disaster preparedness. Members serve for one year and receive a small living stipend, and, upon successful completion of their term of service, an education award."

Brainstem, spinal cord images hidden in Michelangelo's Sistine Cha... ( Michelangelo the 16th century maste...): "Michelangelo, the 16th century master painter and accomplished anatomist, appears to have hidden an image of the brainstem and spinal cord in a depiction of God in the Sistine Chapel's ceiling, a new study by Johns Hopkins researchers reports. These findings by a neurosurgeon and a medical illustrator, published in the May Neurosurgery, may explain long controversial and unusual features of one of the frescoes' figures."

Florida Swimmers Sickened by Gulf Oil: "(Newser) – Just when they thought it was safe to go back in the water, hundreds of swimmers reported feeling ill after braving the waves when Pensacola authorities lifted the 'no swimming' flag.
