An online blog service of the HEIRS Community that discusses aspects related to environmental illnesses including PTSD, Gulf War Syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, diabetes, chemical sensitivity and others. We also provide education on general health issues for all people, promote conservation and protection of resources and advocate for better service access for individuals with disabilities and their assistance animal companions.

It is bee (mean) season - so watch out! Bee stings can be life threatening for some.

It is that time of the year when bees get a little mean -- so be careful and stay away.

HEIRS online explores the health aspects of diseases that are effected by environmental contaminants including obesity, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, heart disease, fibromyalgia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), multiple chemical sensitivities, obesity, diabetes, Lyme disease, neurological diseases such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and numerous others.

At HEIRS, we have a different approach when addressing general health and environmental-related illnesses. In the following pages, we will focus on topics including those related to nutrition, genetics, population studies, behavioral issues etc in addition to specifics such as facts, symptoms and therapies related to these health conditions.

One important research focus is the how the Nrf2/PGC-1a/SIRT1 gene pathway effects environmental illnesses. We believe the function/altered function of this pathway is an important "route" to environmental illness. As you read, you will learn that many factors alter the activities of this pathway that can lead to a number of symptoms that are representiative of different illnesses and we use a holistic approach with an emphasis on systems theory to better understand them. At HEIRS, all conditions that are negatively effected by contaminants in the soil, air, water, drugs, animals and plants toxins are classified under the umbrella of environmental illness.
